I love movies. I love the way they can evoke emotion, take you away from your day-to-day, even change the way you think about something important in your life. So with all this being said, I present my personal list of the best ten Hollywood movies of all time that I have seen. This list has definitely changed since it was first published and will continue to change in the future as more great movies are created, but these movies have made an everlasting impression on me and will stick with me forever.

1) The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont. It tells the story of a man named Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, who is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for the murders of his wife and her lover. The only film on this list that has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, this movie is often ranked as one of the best movies ever made. Star Wars: Star Wars is an epic space opera film series created by George Lucas. It was initially released on May 25th, 1977.
2) Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is a 1994 American drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis. It tells the story of a man who, as a boy, hiked across the country, towing a heavy and seemingly endless iron-frame cart containing an old television set. As he grew up (and became an internationally famous athlete and war hero) he had no idea that his sense of duty was the result of his mother's forcing him to run away from their impoverished home in Alabama and never look back.
3) The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight is a 2008 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan. It is the sequel to 2005's Batman Begins. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Heath Ledger as The Joker. The Dark Knight was released in July 18th, 2008 at 12:01 am for midnight showings. Critics praised the film's performance as one of the best Superhero movies ever made, with one estimating that it surpassed Pixar’s Toy Story in terms of critical acclaim among animation-based movies
This movie has an excellent storyline and is highly entertaining. There are great performances from actors such as Christian Bale and Heath Ledger
4) The Godfather
The Godfather is a 1972 American crime film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by Albert S. Ruddy, based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel of the same name. It stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a fictional New York crime family. Its sequel, The Godfather Part II (1974), which it follows both the first film and Mario Puzo's book closely, was released three years later. They are now considered among the greatest films in world cinema and part of the cultural heritage of America.
5) The Silence of the Lambs
A psychological thriller and horror film, it is also considered one of the best films ever made. The film tells the story of FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) who is sent to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who has been found guilty but insane for a series of brutal murders. Clarice's task is to try to find out what Lecter knows about Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). As they talk, she comes face-to-face with her own worst nightmares as well as those of society. It was a massive commercial success in theaters worldwide and received widespread critical acclaim.
6) The Godfather, Part II
This sequel to the classic The Godfather tells the story of how Michael Corleone became head of the family business. A powerful drama, this film will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. . In addition to the Academy Award-winning performances and direction, the movie also offers a stellar soundtrack by Nino Rota. If that's not enough, it also features one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history: Don Vito Corleone at his daughter's wedding being informed about his son's death. It is one of the few moments where you can't predict what he'll do next; he could be angry or relieved
7) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
This movie is an all-time classic. It's a story about a man who is falsely imprisoned for fighting back against the oppressive Nurse Ratched in the mental hospital where he was sent to serve time for being drunk and disorderly. This film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Jack Nicholson.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) stars Jack Nicholson as Randle Patrick McMurphy, a boisterous but likeable criminal who finds himself on what seems at first glance to be an easy assignment: serving 30 days in the ward for evaluation of psychiatric fitness. But this particular ward houses some crazies--those with the most severe psychiatric problems--and Randle Patrick McMurphy quickly realizes that this assignment will not be as easy as it first seemed.
8) Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a 1994 crime-comedy film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It tells the story of the lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits. The film's title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue. Tarantino pays homage to these literary styles by incorporating graphic violence as well as dark humor into his screenplay. One of the most iconic scenes in the movie features Bruce Willis who delivers a lengthy monologue while holding on to an Uzi submachine gun; which he eventually smashes down on top of another character's head before firing point blank into his back.
9) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
One of the best movies ever made. It is the third and final installment in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, following The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Two Towers (2002). This movie follows Frodo and Sam as they continue their journey to destroy the One Ring by returning it to Mount Doom where it was forged. Along the way, they are joined by members of what is left of the Fellowship: Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir's brother Faramir.
10) Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver is a 1976 American crime film. Directed by Martin Scorsese, it stars Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle, a Vietnam War veteran working as a taxi driver in New York City who becomes psychologically disturbed after witnessing the death of a teenage prostitute and decides to clean up the streets. Along with The Godfather Part II, this was among the few movies released at the time that dealt with psychological issues. It garnered critical acclaim and currently ranks among best-reviewed films of all time on Rotten Tomatoes. Cuckoo's Nest: Cuckoo's Nest is a 1975 American drama movie directed by Milos Forman from a script written by Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman based on Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
